Information Request – Incident Reports
I refer to your official information request dated 06 August 2021 asking for the following
information.
1. The ICAD report for a vegetation fire that was reported approx 2am on Wednesday 7th
July 2021 on SH1 some 60 km north of Kaikoura and near Wharanui Beach Road. This
fire included an area of the Blue Slips Conservation Reserve (DOC).

3. The ICAD report for incident F3210676 (Te Ihu).
On 3 September 2021, we provided information relating to requests 1 and 2 and extended the
timeframe to make a decision on request 3 due to consultation required. On 4 September, you
advised that you were requesting a different report in respect of request 1 and provided further
information to assist us to identify that report.
In accordance with the provisions of the Official Information Act 1982, I
enclose the remaining
information you requested in respect of requests 1 and 3. Some information has been redacted to
protect the privacy of individuals identified in the report.

Zealand’s electronic station management system (SMS Report). In SMS Reports, ‘Notifications’ and
‘Message Log’ fields are reported in real time as fire crews and our communication centres
communicate with each other during the incident. They are not the official final records of
incidents but word for word transcripts of ‘live’ situations as they occur. They may contain spelling
errors or commonly used abbreviations.
