Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) – Response – OIA2021110410
Thank you for your official information request regarding
chairs and needles at the Kilbirne vaccination
centre, which was received by Capital & Coast District Health Board (CCDHB) on 4 November 2021. You
requested the following information:
“Please tell me what the weight rating of the small plastic foldable chairs provided in the Kilbirnie
vaccination centre is, and if any consideration was given to how inappropriate they are for the large
numbers of group 3 members who are accessing the vaccine now due to their high BMI.
Please also supply me with the reasoning behind a lack of supply of 38mm needles needed for the larger
patients.” Our response to your request is outlined below.
Response
1. Please tell me what the weight rating of the small plastic foldable chairs provided in the Kilbirnie
vaccination centre is, and if any consideration was given to how inappropriate they are for the
large numbers of group 3 members who are accessing the vaccine now due to their high BMI.
We have two types of chairs available on site.
Our regular chairs black and white hold over 100 kg
Our red chairs steel frame can hold up to 150kg.
2. Please also supply me with the reasoning behind a lack of supply of 38mm needles needed for
the larger patients.
We always have large needles available and these are pre-drawn up as required as per IMAC guidance
and we are discrete when we use these. We do not make a point of saying we are using a large needle.
These is no shortage of these and they are used when clinically appropriate.
