Auckland Harbour Bridge Incident 
 
I refer to your request which we received on 31 May 2021, regarding the incident on 
Auckland Harbour Bridge on Sunday 30 May. Further to my email to you on 8 June 2021, 
seeking refinement of your request, you replied on the next day and refined your request to: 
Under the LGOIMA, I request all information for the period between 17 May to 2 June, 
held by the following people about the incident on Auckland Harbour Bridge on 30 
May 2021.  
  i.  the mayor and mayor's office staff; 
ii.  elected councillors and their staff (if any); 
iii.  Jim Stabback and his office staff; 
iv.  the Executive Leadership team and any other direct reports to Jim Stabback; 
v.  office staff (such as EAs, PAs and personal advisors) of those in (iv) above; 
and 
vi.  direct reports to those in (iv) above. 
 
I also refer to my email to you on 10 July 2021, extending the timeframe for us to respond to 
your request. My sincere apologies for the delay in getting this response to you and thank 
you for your patience while we have worked on this response. Our response to your 
questions is as follows: 
 
In response to your request, I liaised with the Executive Officers of the following council 
offices and divisions to check within their office or division to confirm if any director of the 
division or their direct reports including themselves hold any information that is within the 
scope of the refined request: 
  -  The Chief Executive office 
-  The Deputy Chief Executive office 
-  The Infrastructure and Environmental Services division 
-  The Chief of Staff office (which includes the Mayor’s office) 
-  Customer & Community Services division  
-  The Regulatory Services division  
-  Nga Matarae - Maori Outcomes department  
-  The Chief of Strategy division

In addition, I also consulted all our council ors through the Council or Support teams from the 
Democracy and Engagement department to ensure information relating to all our elected 
members are included in this response.  
 
We believe this would cover everyone that you have listed in the refined request. 
 
Please find attached emails correspondence provided by the above offices and divisions.  
 
Please note the following information has been withheld from the attached correspondence, 
pursuant to the followings sections of the Local Government Official Information and 
Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA): 
  •  Section 7(2)(a) - some names, contact details and identifiable information relating to 
members of the public have been redacted to protect their privacy; 
 
•  Section 7(2)(f)(i) – information relating to comment provided by Council or Coom to 
NZME on page 26 of the attachment has been withheld to maintain the effective 
conduct of public of affairs through the free and frank expressions of opinion by or 
between or to members or officers or employees acting in the course of their duty; 
and 
  •  Section 7(2)(c)(i) – information relating to a complaint lodged by the members of the 
public has also been withheld and removed, where withholding is necessary to 
protect information which is subject to an obligation of confidence where the making 
the information available would be likely to prejudice the supply of similar information. 
 
As the email from Auckland Transport’s Media Specialist – Natalie Polley on 31 May 2021 
(page 11) contains matters unrelated to the incident on Auckland Harbour Bridge, this 
information has been removed and is marked out of scope.  
 
Furthermore, in terms of the Code of Conduct Complaint lodged against Council or Coom 
(page 21), please be advised that this complaint was determined not upheld.  
 
Decisions about this response to your request were made by Rose Leonard, General 
Manager Governance Services. 
 
Should you believe Auckland Council has not responded appropriately to your request you 
have the right to seek a review of the decision from the Ombudsman.
