Dear Arthur,
Official Information Act request
Thank you for your email on 20 April 2021 requesting, under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act),
the following information:
“As you will be aware, the Environmental Reporting Act 2015 requires Ministers to jointly present
both domain and synthesis reports to the House of Representatives as soon as possible once
published.
Please provide the dates that each domain or synthesis report was presented to the House of
Representatives, since the ERA was enacted.”
Since the Environmental Reporting Act 2015 was enacted, the following domain and synthesis reports
have been released by Stats NZ and the Ministry for the Environment (MfE):

Environment Aotearoa 2015 – released October 2015
▪
Our marine environment 2016 – released October 2016
▪
Our fresh water 2017 – released April 2017
▪
Our atmosphere and climate 2017 – released October 2017
▪
Our land 2018 – released April 2018
▪
Our air 2018 – released October 2018
▪
Environment Aotearoa 2019 – released April 2019
▪
Our marine environment 2019 – released October 2019
▪
Our freshwater 2020 – released April 2020
▪
Our atmosphere and climate 2020 – released October 2020
▪
Our land 2021 – released April 2021
According to the House Office, the only report that has been presented to the House is ‘
Environment
Aotearoa 2015, presented on 21 October 2015.
While the reports were not presented to the House and are not available on the Parliament website, all
reports have been published by Stats NZ and MfE, and so are available online.
Stats NZ and MfE are working to determine why the other reports have not been presented to the House.
We are also consulting the Office of the Clerk and House Office regarding the possible presentation of the
previous papers.
If you are not satisfied with this response, you have the right, by way of complaint to the Office of the
Ombudsman under section 28(3) of the Act, to seek an investigation and review of this response to your
request.
Statistics NZ intends to publish its response to your request made under the Act on th
e Statistics NZ
website. This letter, with your personal details removed, will be published in its entirety. Consistent with
the Act, publishing responses increases the availability of information to the public and helps promote
balanced public debate.
