18 February 2014
via email: [FYI request #1472 email] LOCAL GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL INFORMATION AND MEETINGS ACT REQUEST
This letter is the response to your request of 17 February 2014, received on 18 February 2014, for
the following information:
I request ALL information regarding the recent audit into Resource Consents, etc, and in particular a
recent complaint regarding the apparent extortion of money from a resident in Clifton Avenue, which
apparently resulted in the arson of the complainant's home.
I request all information regarding audits carried out by the CDC in the last five years, and details of the
Resource Consents - in particular a breakdown of the recent payment made by the resident in Clifton
Avenue, which followed the telephoned extortion communication from the Council employee, and which
was witnessed by the above mentioned complainant, in which your employee demanded payment be
personally delivered to the Council in cash or "they will investigate all the other consents".
The payment was made within two days of the extortion attempt, for the full amount of all the
resident's consents, BY CHEQUE, drawn on the resident's trust account.
At Carterton District Council, there has been no audit into resource consents recently or during the
last five years.
I am also unaware of any complaint recently about ‘extortion of money from a resident in Clifton
Avenue’ or the ‘recent payment made by the resident in Clifton Avenue, which followed the
telephoned extortion communication from the Council employee’ that you refer to.
If you are able to provide the house number in Clifton Avenue, the complainant’s name, or the
resident’s name, it might be possible to find the information you have requested.
