Request for information under the Official Information Act
On 7 December 2020, the Department of Internal Affairs transferred your below Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act) request to the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) for a
response.
“I would like to request the details of visits to New Zealand by Mr Derrick May. US
Citizen Occupation musician / DJ Born Detroit Michigan USA 6 April 1963.
The period I am interested in is from January 1 1997, until Dec 31 2004.”
In response, Customs would like to advise that we have considered your request and advise
that we are withholding the information within the scope of your request under section 9(2)(a)
of the Act, to protect the privacy of natural persons, including that of deceased natural
persons. Customs has determined on your request, that the privacy of the individual,
outweighs the public interest in making the information you request available.
You have the right, by way of complaint to the Office of the Ombudsman under section 28(3)
of the Act, to seek an investigation and review of this decision. Information about how to make
