[FYI request #11879 email]
Dear Mr Luke
Thank you for your Official Information Act request to the Auckland Conservation Board
dated 13 December 2019. You requested the following:
1. I have recently learned from my request to DOC that [the] Nelson Conservation
Board has issued each Board member with a name badge to help with increase [sic]
public engagement. May I ask if this Board discuss or consider to issue [sic] it’s
member[s] with a name badge to help with public engagement, given you have
admitted in your response [dated 11 December 2019] that lack of public engagement
is a problem and priority to this Board. If it has not, I would like to bring it to this
Board’s attention and if you can discuss this idea with [sic] your next meeting and
provide me with the feedback. [Text in brackets added for clarity.]
2. I would like to request your schedule [of] Board meetings for next year 2020. [Text
in brackets added for clarity.]

Members of the Conservation Board have in the past been issued with name badges
which they can wear when at meetings. I agree with you that when members of the
public are present the use of name badges can assist. I will discuss with the
Department of Conservation the ordering of name badges for new members of the
Board who have joined recently, to ensure that all our members have name badges.

I can also advise you that rather than name badges, the Board has also used name
plates which sit on the table in front of each member during Board meetings and
displays their names. We have found that name plates serve better at Board meetings
because they are printed with a large font size which is more easily read at a distance.
Name badges pinned to each member’s chest are relatively small in size and are not
as easily read by members of the public unless they are close to the individual Board
member.
2. I would like to request your schedule [of] Board meetings for next year 2020. [Text
in brackets added for clarity.]
Since your request was received the Board’s schedule of meetings for 2020 have been
posted on the webpage about the Board, available at this link:
https://www.doc.govt.nz/about-us/statutory-and-advisory-bodies/conservation-
boards/auckland/. I regret that I must therefore refuse this part of your request
under section 18(d) of the Official Information Act as the information is publicly
available.
You are entitled to seek an investigation and review of my decision by writing to an
Ombudsman as provided by section 28(3) of the Official Information Act.
If you wish to discuss anything in this response with the Board, please contact me through
the Board’s Support Officer by emailing [email address].
Yours sincerely,
