Thank you for your email of 08 August 2019, asking for the following information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (OIA) for the financial years 2017/18 and 2018/19:
1. The total amount ACC paid for treatment costs.
2. The amount ACC paid for each of acupuncture, chiropractic, osteopathy, and physiotherapy services.
3. The total number of ACC claims.
4. The total number of ACC claims that involved each of acupuncture, chiropractic, osteopathy, and
physiotherapy services
You requested that the information we provide is comparable with previous responses, and referred to
examples on the FYI website.
Some treatment cost information you requested wil be publicly available
For Question 1, the total treatment cost information we had previously provided was from figures
contained in our annual reports. The totals were calculated from adding the following costs:
• Medical treatment
• Hospital treatment
• Public Health Acute Services
• Dental Treatment
• Conveyance for treatment
This particular cost information is contained in the
Underwriting result within the Financial Statements
section of the annual reports. Based on this, ACC’s total treatment cost for 2017/18 was $1,751 million.
The 2018/19 Annual Report has not been finalised yet, so the total treatment cost for 2018/19 is not
currently available. This information will be available when the 2018/19 Annual Report is publicly released
on our website, which we expect wil be in early October (at this
link). We therefore decline this part of
your request as the information will soon be publicly available. This decision is made under section 18(d)
of the OIA.
