Good morning
Your request for information regarding the Council staff and amalgamation
proposal has been referred to me for response.
I will respond regarding staff numbers as soon as I have the information
available.
With regard to your query in respect of amalgamation I would advise that
the Council has made no decision to amalgamate with any adjoining Council.
At the moment it has a working party looking at the possibilities of the
Far North District becoming a Unitary Authority but at this time no formal
decision has been made to proceed with an application to the Local
government Commission.

Far North District Council
3 July 2012
Good afternoon
I respond to your request for official information regarding the Council’s
proposed amalgamation.
I would advise that the Council has no wish to amalgamate with any
adjoining authority but it has established a working party which is
looking at the possibility of the Far North District becoming a Unitary
Authority. This working party has yet to report back to the Council for a
formal decision as to whether it will proceed.
I would also advise that if you wish to pursue your original request it is
likely to take some time to retrieve the information and as a result there
will likely be a charge.
Please let me know if you want to pursue the matter and as the council is
not contemplating amalgamation what specific information you would want. I
will then be able to assess the time involved and provide you with an
estimate of the cost.
