From: P McKenna

Dear OIA Requests,
This request is to clarify a response made by the Ministry Of Health to my earlier OIA request (ref H2022017590) That request was for 1) all cause hospitalisations, 2) by Covid vaccination status, 3) by month, and 4) for all age groups. The response by your office did not supply all hospitalisations but only what appeared to be hospitalisations 'with' Covid.
Because of this inadequate response, I immediately made another request (ref H2022017590) to clarify that I needed ALL CAUSE hospitalisations not just those from Covid. You referred that request to Te Whatu Ora. I accepted that decision on the assumption that you only held Covid related data.
However, because your previous response highlighted an unforeseen issue with the 0-9 age group, I made this new request for that data in such a way as to confirm what it was for, and avoid what you call' our confidentiality methods' asking for all months to be combined and thereby avoiding the need to suppress data.
But now, with your decision to transfer this Covid related request to Te Whatu Ora, I am lead to question what the data in H2022017590 was related to, because if the H2022017590 data was Covid related, you do in fact have it and can respond to my request.
Can you please then, advise me on what the Data you supplied in request H2022017590 was related to?
If H2022017590 was related to Covid Hospitalisations, then can you please expedite the requested information without any further delay.

Yours sincerely,

P McKenna

Tçnâ koe,

Thank you for your email of 15 February, asking for the following
information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act):

“For children aged 0-9 years (inclusive) in NZ and for the period 1
January to 30 September 2022 (inclusive):
1)Please supply the number of Hospitalisations with a Covid Positive test
result within the 28 days prior to, or during admission. Please supply
numbers by vaccination status (unvaccinated, 1 dose, completed primary
course, and boosted)
2)Please supply the number of Hospitalisations where Covid-19 was the
cause or contributing cause. Please supply numbers by vaccination status.
Please also supply the same information as above separately for the period
1 January to 31 December 2022
For clarity, 1) above refers to the original classification of Covid-19
hospitalisation prior to July 2022, and 2) refers to the current
classification. Please do not break down by month but give data for the
whole period.”

This email is to let you know that Te Whatu Ora needs more time to make a
decision on your request.

The Act requires that we advise you of our decision on your request no
later than 20 working days after the day we received your request.
Unfortunately, it will not be possible to meet that time limit and we are
therefore writing to notify you of an extension of the time to make our
decision, to 23 March.

This extension is required because the consultations necessary to make a
decision on your request are such that a proper response cannot reasonably
be made within the original time limit.

If you have any questions, please contact us at [1][email address]

If you are not happy with this extension, you have the right to make a
complaint to the Ombudsman. Information about how to do this is available
at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz or by phoning 0800 802 602.
