a)     How much did your recent mains cleaning program cost
(approximately, last FY is OK).

b)     Do you run any tests on water quality as part of the mains cleaning
work?

 

c)  If yes, is there a summary of a recent 2022 test available from one of
the mains cleaning areas (a summary that a non scientist can understand).

3.     This is being treated as an Official Information request, and as
such, Council must meet certain criteria in how and when we respond to
you, set out in the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act
1987.

 

4.     Your request has been provided to the relevant officers for follow
up. You will be advised of Council’s decision as soon as is reasonably
possible, and no later than 20 working days from the date we received your
request, unless we have agreed an extension to that time frame with you

Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act request – Mains
cleaning – Response

 

1.     Further to your request for information dated 23 June 2022,
regarding the Mains cleaning, we are now able to provide you with Napier
City Council’s response.

 

2.     You requested:

 

a)     How much did your recent mains cleaning program cost
(approximately, last FY is OK).

b)     Do you run any tests on water quality as part of the mains cleaning
work?

 

c)     If yes, is there a summary of a recent 2022 test available from one
of the mains cleaning areas (a summary that a non scientist can
understand).

 

3.     Response:

 

a)  Council spent approximately $60,000 in total on mains cleaning in the
2020/21 financial year.

b)  Yes. Council has chemistry testing carried out on the flushings to
indicate what is being removed from the pipes.

 

c)  A recent water test report showed the natural variation we would
expect to see due to multiple source bores, however, a normal range of
both iron and manganese for water in the reticulation is less than
0.01mg/L.

This is different to testing on the flushings which can show levels
greater than 10mg/L for total iron and greater than 20mg/L for total
manganese.
