Creative Spaces - Creative Arts Recovery and Employment Fund (MCH)
Nic Lane made this Official Information request to Ministry for Culture and Heritage
The request was partially successful.
From: Nic Lane
Kia Ora Ministry for Culture and Heritage,
I understand one of the goals for the 'Creative Arts Recovery and Employment (CARE)' - 'Creative Spaces' fund was to create employment for 'creative professionals'.
Are you able to supply (by region) what the total funded amount paid to artists will be, compared with administrators?
How many FTE roles were created?
Of these roles, how many roles were created for individuals with lived experienced of disability?
How was the co-design with 'clients' assessed to ensure services were designed with, and for persons with lived experience of disability?
How were organisations & their governance assessed to see that they were led by persons with lived experience of disability?
What accessible formats were applications supplied in?
How was accessibility designed into the approachability of the fund?
Who was the assessment panel?
Do they have lived experience of disability?
How were they selected?
How has the fund supported artists who face barriers have sovereignty or Tino rangatiratanga over their art practice? Does Ministry of Culture & Heritage have a definition of institutionalisation?
Ngā Mihi,
Nic Lane

Dear MCH,
You noted "we collect data from all the creative spaces funded through the initiative which breaks down the participants with lived experience of disability" but yet by not having the same requirement of the judging panel you're potentially creating an unequal footing.
Removing the ability to assess if you're ignoring the philosophy of 'Nothing about us, Without us' therefore not allowing Tino Rangatiratanga, and not contributing to the development of a workforce with lived experience of disabilities.
Yours sincerely,
Nic Lane [he/him]
