Dear New Zealand Police,
Under the Official information Act, I request the following information.
Following the end of the Dec 2020/Jan 2021 riot and surrender of 16 prison inmates that destroyed the "Waikeria Top Jail";
1) How many of these inmates have been charged with committing a crime relating to this riot and destruction?
2) What crimes were they charged with?
3) Have any charges been dropped?
3A) If yes in question 3), what were the charges that were dropped?

I refer to your request for information made under the Official
Information Act 1982
You have asked for:
Following the end of the Dec 2020/Jan 2021 riot and surrender of 16 prison

I have considered your request under the OIA 1982 and I can advise you of
the following;
* Police are refusing to release any information on this matter due to
there being current investigations in progress by both Police and the
Department of Corrections.
You have the right to ask the Ombudsman to review my decision if you are
not satisfied with Police’s response to your request.

It appears media have stated a number of charges have been made against those prisoners and therefore the police have no right to refuse aspects of this request.
I'd go straight to the ombudsman on this occasion
