Cost of closure - Waitākere Ranges Regional Park 
 
I refer to your email received on 2 April 2019, requesting information on the total cost of 
closing the Waitākere Ranges Regional Park. We apologise for the delay in providing this 
response. 
 
The details of your request and our response is below. 
 
1.  The total cost of closing the Waitākere Ranges Regional Park, including but not 
limited to, the cost of fencing off the track entrances. 
 
The total cost of closing the regional park in the 2018/2019 to date is $204,604. 
 
Table 1 below provides a breakdown of these costs.

Table 3 in At achment 1 summarises the total cost of the Kauri Dieback Ambassadors 
working in the Waitākere Ranges Regional Park over the period December 2018 to March 
2019. 
 
The total costs for both the compliance officers and ambassadors for Waitākere Ranges 
Regional Park to date is $262,939. 
 
3.  The 2019/2020 financial year budget for upgrading tracks to kauri dieback safe 
standard. 
 
The 2019/2020 capital budget for track improvement work on council-managed parks is 
$5,482,620.00. 
 
This is for track upgrades in the Waitākere and Hunua Ranges Regional Parks, as well other 
parks where there are tracks through kauri forest.
