I refer to your request for information received by the Department of Internal Affairs
(Department) on 12 December 2018. This response is provided to you under the Official
Information Act 1982 (Act).
You requested—
Can you please advise
1. to how many persons per annum holding the citizenship of the Dominican Republic
was New Zealand citizenship granted from the earliest year for which records are easily
available.
2. to how many persons per annum previously ordinarily resident in the Dominican
Republic was New Zealand citizenship granted from the earliest year for which records
are easily available.

The earliest year for which records are easily available is 2000. Grants of citizenship

2. Grants of New Zealand citizenship to persons previously ordinarily resident in the
Dominican Republic
The Department does not require applicants for the grant of citizenship to state their
previous countries of residence.
It is therefore necessary to refuse this part of your request under section 18(e) on the
grounds that the document al eged to contain the information requested does not
exist or, despite reasonable efforts to locate it, cannot be found.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
