Official Information Act Request 
 
I  refer  to  your  request  dated  24  September  2018  (received  via  www.fyi.org.nz)  for  the 
following information under the Official Information Act 1982 (Act): 
 
1. How much has Victoria University of Wellington spent (either paid or accrued) on all aspects of 
the decision to change its name?  
 
2. How many hours of staff time have been spent on all aspects of the decision? 
 
3. Has Victoria University of Wellington estimated how much it will cost to change its name 
(including consequential costs, such as rebranding costs)? 
 
4. If the answer to 3. is yes, please provide the best estimate of the total cost, an explanation of 
what costs are included or specifically excluded, and an explanation of how the cost was 
estimated. 

 
With  regard  to  your  first  question,  the  University  has  spent  $254,871  on  the  name 
simplification project up until 24 September 2018. 
 
In relation to your second question, the University does not record the time spent by staff 
on particular projects.   
 
In  relation  to  your  final  two  questions,  the  expected  financial  cost  of  the  name  change, 
together  with  explanations,  is  outlined  in  the  attached  draft  decision  paper  and  final 
recommendation paper.
