Light Weight O Cost Breakdown 
 
I refer to your request dated 6 August 2018, for a breakdown of the total cost involved with 
the mirror sculpture, Light Weight O by artist Catherine Griffiths, on O'Connell Street 
installed in July 2018. 
 
The total cost for Light Weight O of $265,000 was funded through the approved regional 
public art budget and city centre targeted rate. This amount reflects the whole-of-project 
costs, not just the art piece itself. With reference to your request, below is a breakdown of 
the Light Weight O artwork project:  
 
-  Artist fees, Artwork Fabrication, Heritage Building and Artwork Install

-  Consenting, peer review and other expenses

-  Consultancy (feasibility) of suspension and construction

-  Engineering fees, H&S reviews, heritage scanning and reports

The artist fee is incorporated in the first line of the expenditure breakdown together with the 
artwork manufacture and install costs. As you will appreciate, the artist fee is a contracted 
and commercially sensitive negotiation hence not explicitly separated as a cost. 
 
Should you believe that we have not dealt with your request appropriately, you have the right 
in accordance with section 27(3) of the LGOIMA to make a complaint to the Office of the 
Ombudsman and seek an investigation and review in regard to this matter.
