Dear Sir/Madam
Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act (LGOIMA) 1987
Re: the Lauren Southern and Stefan Molyneux event
I refer to your email, which we received on 3 August 2018, requesting information about the
decision not to allow Stefan Molyneux and Lauren Southern speaking at Auckland council
venues.
The company marketing ‘Stefan Molyneux and Lauren Southern LIVE’ entered into a venue
hire agreement with RFA to hire the Bruce Mason Theatre. The booking was cancelled in
accordance with the terms of that venue hire agreement.
Please find attached a copy of the venue hire agreement noting some information has been
withheld under section 7(2)(a) of the LGOIMA to protect the privacy or natural persons and
s7(2)(h) to enable commercial activities to be carried out without prejudice or disadvantage.
In our view the public interest would not outweigh these reasons.
Excerpts from Robbie Macrae’s health and safety affidavit have been withheld under
LGOIMA s7(2)(d) to avoid prejudice to measures protecting the health or safety of members
of the public and s7(2)(g) to protect legal privilege. In our view we do not consider the public
interest outweighs these reasons.
Should you believe Auckland Council has not responded appropriately to your request, you
have the right by way of complaint, under section 27(3) of the LGOIMA, to apply to the
Ombudsman to seek an investigation and review of the decision.
If you have any further queries please contact me on 09 301 0101 quoting Official
Information Request No. 8140003363.
Yours sincerely
