Dear Tim
Request made under the Official Information Act 1982
Thank you for your email of 28 March 2018 requesting the following information under the Official
Information Act 1982 (the Act):
Under the Official Information Act, could you please release the overall cost of the Waikato
Expressway, as expressed in NZ$ on a reference date, as well as the cost of sections of the Waikato
Expressway, in particular the Cambridge bypass.
Could you also provide any traffic count in Cambridge on former SH1, such as Hamilton Road,
Victoria Street or Queen Street, for dates before the opening of the bypass and after the opening of
the bypass (including the latest traffic count).
The total cost of the Waikato Expressway is currently estimated at approximately $1.8b (excluding
administrative costs) and is about 70% complete. As there are major works stil to complete on the
Longswamp, Huntly and Hamilton sections, and some outstanding costs for sections that are already
open to traffic, final costs will not be known for several years. The fol owing breakdown shows the
latest estimates for each section of the Waikato Expressway.
•
Te Rapa section (opened in 2012)
$ 172M
•
Ngaruawahia section (opened in 2013)
$ 160M
•
