Re: cost of a LGOIMA request
I refer to your email, which we received on 26 January 2018, requesting information about
the estimated cost of a Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act (1987)
(LGOIMA) request which was published in a Spinoff article on 25 January 2018.
Auckland Council estimates the average cost of processing and responding to a LGOIMA
request at $611 per request.
There are three cost areas that make up the $611 average:
• Central LGOIMA team - 6 full time employees (Business Partners) plus 80% of the
time of their Manager
• Cost of non LGOIMA staff time – based on median salary estimated from Annual
Report information publicly available.
The breakdown of the average cost for each of these categories is:

Period looked at was 12 months from April 2016 – March 2017

No of LGOIMAs responded to for this period was 1,050

For 65% of these requests the number of hours spent by staff outside the central

3.3hrs
