Hello Barbara
Apologies for the delay in responding to your query the Ministry for the Environment only reopened after the
Holidays this week.
A copy of the relevant standard, Self- Containment of Motor Caravans and Caravans, NZS 5465:2001 is
published and sold by Standards New Zealand, www.standards.co.nz .
As of right all registered plumbers may certify to the standard but they need to check that the caravan
complies with the standard in all respects.
1982
The plumber fills out Appendix A of the standard and gives a copy to the client, the plumber also needs to
affix a warrant sticker to the front left windscreen of the caravan
Blank warrant stickers may be obtained from the Ministry. To obtain these, the plumber needs to provide
Act
their registration number, a mailing address, and the number of stickers required and then email
There is also a green diamond “responsible camper” sticker that is commonly placed on the back of
complying caravans.
Although this is not currently mentioned in the standard or required, camping enforcement officers and
campground owners often look for them to indicate self-containment.
These labels are printed by the NZ Motor Caravan Association, www.nzmca.org.nz  and you may wish to
contact them for copies.
Information
Please be aware that the standard NZS 5465:2001 is currently being revised to change the certificate
labelling signage.
At some point in 2012 plumbers will also need to obtain this update from Standards NZ.
In the revised standard, a new self-containment sticker for the back of the caravan, in a format matching the
blue and white campsite sign, will be required. Official
The warrant stickers for the front windscreen will also be in a new standardised form.
After revision of the standard, the warrant stickers will no longer be available from us, but will be available
from the NZ Motor Caravan Association.
the
The self-containment sticker for the back of the caravan will also be available from the Association.
I hope this information is of assistance.

Subject: List of plumbers who can certify campervans

Hi there
Can you tell me if you hold a list of plumbers who can certify campervans as being self contained?
Britz and Maui campervans are arriving in the Queenstown Lakes District with no certification and are
getting ticketed under our bylaw.
Regards
Barbara
