I refer to your email dated 27 October 2017 which was received by Greater Wellington
Regional Council’s (GWRC) on 27 October 2017. You have requested the following
information:

In a recent OIA Response (https://fyi.org.nz/request/6651-fare-review-2016-option-long-list-

22265#incoming-22265), the Average Cost of Driving was calculated at $4.69.
1) Can I please have a copy of the calculation used to provide this estimate of the average cost
of driving for the Wellington Region used in Fare Review ?
2) Can I please have an estimate of the cost of parking if included into the average cost of
driving for the Wellington Region used in Fare Review ?
3) Can I please have a copy of the cost per kilometer used in the estimate for the average cost
of driving for the Wellington Region used in Fare Review ?
4) Can I please have a copy of the average distance used in the estimate for the average cost
of driving for the Wellington Region used in Fare Review ?
5) Can I please have a copy of the source document used to provide the driving cost elements
used in the estimate for the average cost of driving for the Wellington Region used in Fare
Review ?

Attached is a spreadsheet document that provides the information you have requested in its

The estimates assumed a daily cost of $10 as average for early bird parking.
The estimates of driving costs are based on the 2013 report of the Automobile Association
(AA) and the data on maximum age and odometer readings on cars being scrapped in New
Zealand. The 2015 values are estimated based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures for
June 2013 and 2015. Please note the figures in the spreadsheet were solely used for the
purpose of estimating the average cost of travel by car using the information available at the
time, and are no longer current. The references can be accessed from the following links:
