Proposed Installation of speed calming humps  
 
We are writing to you in response to concerns that have been raised by the residents of Point 
Wells. Also following a recent traffic speed survey the speeds of vehicles entering Point Wells 
were found to be exceptionally high. 
 
Vehicles  sometimes  travel  at  excessive  speed  on  Point  Wells  Road,  especially  during  the 
summer season. To improve road safety on Point Wells Road, Auckland Transport is proposing 
to  introduce  several  speed  humps  at  approximately  100m  intervals,  to  encourage  drivers  to 
reduce vehicle speed and make it safer for local residents and through traffic.  
 
The approximate locations  of the proposed humps are shown schematically on the attached 
plans. Parking will be permitted on the speed humps resulting in no loss of on-street parking. 
The  speed  humps  have  been  positioned  to  avoid  interfering  with  private  driveways  and  to 
maintain the desired approximate 100m spacing interval. 
 
It is noted that speed humps are generally effective at reducing vehicle speeds.  However, they 
can create discomfort for motorists, and may result in additional traffic noise associated with 
motorists braking and accelerating in the vicinity of the speed hump devices.  
 
As part of the consultation process, your feedback is being sought from those directly affected 
by the proposal.  Please complete the attached form and return it in the reply paid envelope
