OFFICIAL INFORMATION ACT REQUEST – AVIATION SAFETY & RPAS IN WHENUAPAI CONTROL ZONE  
We refer to your request for information under the Official Information Act 1982 (“OIA”) set out on the 
FYI.org.nz website on 7 May 2017. 
You have requested the following information: 
1.  What the level of accuracy is for the Airshare latitude and longitude data we hold. 
Question One  
The latitude and longitude data is provided to by Airshare users (in the most part) by drawing the flight 
area on a Google map. Google then calculates the longitude and latitude based on the mapped flight 
area.  
We  do  not  hold  any  information  on  the  ‘level  of  accuracy’  Google  calculates  for  the  latitude  and 
longitude data. Accordingly, we must refuse your request under section 18(g)(i) and section 18(g)(ii) of 
the OIA. 
Regarding the comment: “…based on your previous actions…” 
We  would  like  to  clarify  that  we  refer  to  your  previous  intents  to  post  the  data  and  Confidentiality 
Agreement online (including via FYI.org.nz).   
Your rights 
Please  note  that  the  OIA  is  not  a  mechanism  that  can  be  used  to  engage  in  debate  or  generate 
explanations  in  relation  to  a  matter  of  interest  to  the  requestor.  You  are  entitled  to  apply  to  the 
Ombudsman for a review of our decision pursuant to section 28(3) of the OIA.
