Information Request – Eligibility to request information under OIA 
 
On  12  December 2016, you lodged a request for information from the New Zealand Fire Service 
Commission (‘Request’).  The following  day,  NZFS acknowledged that your Request  had  been 
successfully received. 
 
In order to establish whether the Official Information Act 1982 (‘OIA’)  applies to a request for 
information, NZFS must establish whether that request has been made by a person eligible to make 
a request under that Act. 
 
Subsection 12(1) of the OIA provides  that the following  people  are eligible to  request  information 
under the Act: 
•  a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident; 
•  a person who is in New Zealand; 
•  a body corporate that is either incorporated in New Zealand, or 
•  a body corporate that has a place of business in New Zealand.  
 
In order for the Request to be considered under the OIA, and so that NZFS can provide necessary 
assistance,  we  would be grateful if you could please  provide your contact details (ie. name and 
address).  You may also do this by contacting the author in confidence on the phone number below. 
 
Following  confirmation  that the Request had been made by a person within a  category  listed in 
subsection 12(1) of the OIA, NZFS looks forward to providing all reasonable assistance in connection
