Provision of the Cloud for Navy events 
 
 
Thank you for your request for information regarding the offer of The Cloud by our former 
chair Sir Robert Harvey to the Navy for use for events marking the Navy's 75th birthday. 
 
We are providing use of The Cloud on a complimentary basis to the New Zealand Navy on 
the occasion of the celebration of their 75th Anniversary as part of our community 
engagement.  In a similar vein, we also support many other community engagements since 
2011 including The Tamaki Herenga Waka Festival, Auckland Emergency Services Open 
Day, The NZ Police Open Day, The Olympic Team 2016 Welcome Home celebrations, The 
Matariki Kapa Haka Super 12’s competition.  
 
The NZ Navy will however pay all ancillary costs associated with their event including power, 
onsite management, cleaning and any repairs incurred as a result of their use of our venue.  
The opportunity costs for the use of The Cloud on this occasion is $48,000.00. 
 
Our management of the NZ Navy’s event in The Cloud is identical to the way we manage all 
events in Queens Wharf venues.  A member of our venue coordination team engages in an 
on-going dialogue with the Navy’s event management team to ensure all health and safety 
and logistic requirements are met until the time they arrive on site for the commencement of 
their event.  Our venue services team takes over the supervision of the event from the time 
their first supplier arrives on site till the moment their last supplier departs Queens Wharf.  
The cost of the venue services team is included in the ancillary costs invoiced post their 
event.  
 
We have had a close relationship with the NZ Navy over the years - they provide access to 
Navy ships for public visits and the Navy Band for entertainment during Auckland City’s 
annual Anniversary Weekend celebrations and our support of Operation Neptune is part of 
this on-going collaboration.
