Thank you Geoff. This needs to go right to the top. I have raised the issue of the danger here on at least three separate ocassion state, and each time it's been fobbed off. This time, I am seriously resolved to see a speedy solution.

Sarah,
I have forwarded your email to NZTA who control Cobham Drive. They will make the final call on whether or not to lower the speed limit. I suspect they will be reluctant to take action until the investigation into the fatality is complete. Given the site of the fatality vehicles will have been travelling slower than the posted speed limit and therefore vehicle speed is unlikely to have been a contributing factor.
Nevertheless there appears to be an issue with pedestrians crossing Cobham Drive and we are pressuring NZTA to take a fresh look at demand and solutions.

Subject: Fwd: Pedestrian safety in the Eastern Ward
Hi Geoff,
I believe there has been a fatality on Cobham Drive, the accident I mention a week or so ago. It's so sad and unnecessary.
As you know, I have asked quite a few times about lots of pedestrian issues, including Cobham Drive, as per the email below.
I am now resolved that between NZTA and ourselves we simply must have some sort of solution to getting across Cobham Drive for people trying to get between Miramar and Kilbirnie, whether it is part of the Cycleways
spend or not.
This morning I saw a schoolboy with his bike on the grass median strip, looking tense and trying to find a gap in the traffic to safely cross. I'd like to suggest the speed is immediately reduced to 50 km/ hr until an infrastructure solution is found.
This is not fair, to a whole community that can't easily access their banks, schools and other services.

Subject: Pedestrian safety in the Eastern Ward
Hi Geoff, I have had some discussions with residents recently about the possible need for more pedestrian crossings or enhanced pedestrian safety features, in several locations including,
A crossing on Carlton Gore Road or alternatively a second crossing on Oriental Parade to facilitate the safety of children getting to and from Roseneath School
A possible pedestrian crossing or traffic lights on Onepu Road to facilitate safety of children walking or cycling to Lyall Bay school, especially ow we will have the Leonie Gill cycle/ walkway in use.
On Queens Drive there is possibly a need for safer crossing at the bottom of Regal Gardens walkway. The previous lyall Bay School principal identified this as a concern in conversation with me. Also the footpath on the corner of Cruikshank and Queens Drive is woefully inadequate.
Cobham Drive, a pedestrian crossing somewhere towards the Miramar end is really needed.
Wanting to discuss.
