I refer to your request under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 
1987 with reference to your query about water resources, made using the website fyi.org.nz 
 
We understand Wellington Water Limited has responded to you directly via that website, but 
for completeness we are setting out that information for you again in this letter. 
 
Your requests and our responses are as follows. 
 
1. 
I would like any or all documentation on Porirua City Council’s consent forms for 
extracting water from all local streams in the Porirua area. 
 
• 
All consents relating to water extraction are managed by Greater Wellington Regional 
Council. Water is not extracted from Porirua streams for water supply purposes. 
 
2. 
Also any or all information on where Porirua gets its water supply. 
 
• 
Porirua’s water supply, along with that of Wellington and the Hutt Valley, is sourced 
from extraction points on the Hutt River at Kaitoke, the Waiwhetu aquifer (extracted 
from bores in Waterloo, Lower Hutt) and the Wainuiomata and Orongorongo Streams, 
also in Lower Hutt.
