Your Official Information Act request, reference: GOV-049158 
Thank you for your request of 26 June 2026, asking for the following information under the Official 
Information Act 1982 (the Act): 
 
1.  Please advise when Mr Vasudeva Pai last participated in the approved recertification 
programme relevant to the vocational scope of Orthopaedic medicine and general scope of 
practise.  The last evidence we can find of this dates back to 2007. 
2.  Please advise where Mr Pai is teaching from as despite the inferences we find no association 
to any institution mentioned in his bio links or his website which includes BONEFIX. 
3.  Please advise the difference between an “independent” advisor to ACC and an assessor for 
ACC 
 
Question 1. Participation in approved recertification programme 
ACC does not hold records relating to Dr Vasudeva Pai’s participation in recertification programmes. 
Information regarding compliance with recertification requirements for vocational and general scopes 
of practice is held by the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) which is responsible for 
administering and monitoring these requirements. 
 
Question 2. Where Mr Pai is teaching 
We are refusing to provide the information requested as it is not held by ACC. This decision has been 
made under section 18(g) of the Act. 
 
Question 3. Role of independent advisor and assessors for ACC 
An independent advisor provides expert clinical advice to ACC based on a review of claim information 
and clinical records and does not assess the client directly.  An assessor undertakes an independent 
assessment of a client and provides findings and recommendations to ACC. Medical practitioners 
undertaking either role are expected to ensure this is within their scope of practice and they comply 
with the Medical Council of New Zealand's standards for medical assessments conducted for third 
parties.
