Official Information request – ALPSS Pro Vice Chancellor Award GPA 2025 
I  refer  to  your  request  for  official  information  of  23  June  2026  in  which  you  have  requested  the 
following information: 
Provide  the  minimum,  maximum,  mean  and  median  GPA  of  students  who  were  on  the  2025  Pro  Vice-
Chancellor's List for Academic Excellence (for the division of Arts, Law, Psychology and Social Science). 
Categorise this by degrees (BA, LLB etc) as well as list the total number of students enrolled in the degree vs 
the number of people in the degree who got the award. 
Under the Official Information Act 1982 (Act) the University of Waikato (University) has considered 
your request and responds as follows. 
The  minimum,  maximum,  mean  and  median  GPA  of  students  who  were  on  the  2025  Pro  Vice-
Chancellor’s  List  for  Academic  Excellence  (for  the  division  of  Arts,  Law,  Psychology  and  Social 
Science) are set out below:

The  attached  information  provides  the  GPA  by  qualification,  total  number  of  enrolled  students, 
number of students who received the award, and the corresponding minimum, maximum, mean, 
and median GPA of award recipients.  
Please  note that  some  students  were  enrolled  in  more  than  one  qualification  during  the  relevant 
period  and  may  therefore  be  represented  across  multiple  qualifications.  In  addition,  four  award 
recipients were enrolled under Individual Paper Credit (IPC). As IPC study is assessed on a Pass/Fail 
basis,  these  students  do  not  receive  standard  grade  points,  and  their  GPA  is  calculated  using  a 
different  methodology  and  scale  from  the  University's  standard  9-point  GPA  system.  To  ensure 
consistency and comparability of the GPA data provided, these students have been excluded from 
the GPA analysis. Certain figures have also been aggregated to protect the privacy of natural persons 
pursuant to section 9(2)(a) of the Act.
