Official Information Act request: Firearms Licensing Review Committee
Thank you for your email of 21 June 2026 to the Ministry of Justice (the Ministry). Under the
Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), you requested:

May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have call
for public nominations e.g. govt.jobs website.
2.
A copy of your ad as well and pay rate. 3.
Also, how many applications you have received for each of the role from the public
and how many you have received from other nominating agencies such as TPK or
Ministry of women etc for your role.
4.
How many you have shortlisted and how many you have interviewed. 5.
In this round, how many vacancy you have. 6.
Besides meeting fees, do they receive any other benefits, such as expense
reimbursement (If so, may I request to view your expense reimbursement policy in
relation to your board member), a laptop, ID card, phone, or similar provisions?

In response to part 1 of your request, between 4 and 18 June 2026 the Ministry sought
expressions of interest in being appointed as a member for the Firearms Licensing Review
Committee (the Review Committee). Applicants were required to send their expression of
interest to the dedicated email address in the advertisement.
Anyone could apply to be a member of the Review Committee via the Ministry website. This
information is available via the link you sent along with your request, here:

Regarding part 2 of your request, the job advertisement can be found using the link above.
However, in case it is removed from the Ministry website, we have attached a copy of the
Job Description and Expression of Interest form to this letter in the Appendix.
As noted above, expressions of interests for the Review Committee closed on 18 June 2026.
As such, the Ministry is currently reviewing and considering the applicants. For this reason,
part 3 of your request is refused under section 9(2)(f)(iv) of the Act to maintain the
constitutional conventions that protect confidentiality of advice tendered by officials. In
withholding information under section 9 of the Act, I have considered the public interest and
do not consider that it outweighs withholding the information at this time.
Parts 4, 5 and 6 of your request are refused under 18(e) of the Act as the information does
not yet exist. The selection process is stil underway, and this information has not been
created.
You are welcome to resubmit a new official information request in approximately three
months’ time, after the selection process is complete.
