Thank you for your request for information about Asylum Seekers Support Trusts which was
received by the Department of Internal Affairs on 16 June 2026. You have requested the
fol owing:
Please provide any reports held by DIA about Asylum Seekers Support Trust (ASST) for the 2025
and 2026 reporting years, including:
Monitoring Reports;
Impact Evaluation Reports;
Annual Returns;
Financial Reports;
Performance Reports;
Audit Reports;
Service Delivery Reports.
In response to your request I can provide you with the fol owing information
I note that the organisation is Aotearoa Refugee Support Trust, rather than Asylum Seekers
Support Trust (ASST). Searches were undertaken using both names, and the relevant
information was identified under Aotearoa Refugee Support Trust.
Please refer to Appendix A attached alongside this letter for copies of grant records held by the
Department for Aotearoa Refugee Support Trust that fal within the scope of your request.
These are released to you with some information withheld pursuant to section 9(2)(a) of the
Act, the withholding of the information is necessary to protect the privacy of natural persons,
including that of deceased natural persons.
Under section 9(1) of the Act, I have considered if the reasons for withholding the information
are outweighed by other considerations, which render it desirable, in the public interest, to
make that information available. I have not identified any public interest that outweighs the
need to withhold the information.
Some of the information has been omitted from the documents as it fal s outside the scope of
your request, any information of this nature has been marked as ‘out of scope’.
The financial reports for Aotearoa Refugee Support Trust can be found on the Charities Website
at www.charities.govt.nz. Therefore, this part of your request is refused pursuant to section
18(d) of the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act), that the information is publicly available.
I must advise that the Department does not hold monitoring reports, impact Evaluation reports,
Performance reports, Audit reports or Service Delivery reports relating to Aotearoa Refugee
Support Trust. Therefore, we are refusing this portion pursuant to section 18(e) of the
Act because the requested documents do not exist or, despite reasonable efforts to
locate them, cannot be found.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review of my decisions about your request by
the Ombudsman pursuant to section 28(1) of the Act. The Office of the Ombudsman can be
