Report of Crash Data Quality December 2025
1. Introduction
This report will be issued monthly. Some measures will be reported every month
whereas others will be reported every six months.
2. Routine Measures
This report contains some of the measures outlined in the documentout of scope
out of scope
. Those measures not included in this report will
eventually be contained in future reports.
Integrity
ACT 1982
Measure 1a. The percentage of crashes in which the sum of the numbers of
pedestrians and vehicles involved equals the number of parties in the crash.
This will be reported every six months and the report was run on Monday 26
January 2026.
Result 99.4%.
Tolerance: 100%.
This measure is outside the tolerance.
INFORMATION
Measure 1c. The percentage of drivers in crashes against whom alcohol above
the limit or blood refused was coded, who had an alcohol reading above the
limit or who refused to give a blood sample.
Result: 60% of all crashes.
Tolerance: 100% of drivers who had an alcohol reading above the limit or who
refused to give a blood sample.
This measure is outside tolerance. Currency
Measure 3a. For fatal crashes, the average time, in working days, between the
first occurrence of a death (the death being one that is included in the official
road death statistics) from a crash to the distribution of a fatal crash notification
from the NZ Transport Agency for that crash during the last month (1 November
to 30 November 2025). This is reported monthly.
Result: 1.05 working days (all but two crashes were notified within 1 working
day) but there were 19 fatal crashes recorded in December 2025.
Tolerance: 90% of fatal crashes in the last month were notified within 1 working
day of a death being reported.

Measure 3b. For all crashes, the time between the occurrence of a crash and the
appearance of data for it in the CAS Reporting Application for 50% of crashes,
84% of crashes and 95% of crashes, over the last two years. This is reported
every six months and the report was run on Tuesday 13 January 2026.
Result: This table shows the number of days for 50%, 84% and 95% of crashes to
be available in CAS after the occurrence of a crash, by severity.

January 2026.
Result: There are 85 columns which have been monitored, 84 of which are
ful y populated and 1 column (created by) where 99% of rows are NULL.

Tolerance: Al mandatory columns must be populated.

3. Data Quality Issues

4. Efforts Made to Improve Data Quality The Crash Data Processing Team has cleared th
OFFICIAL e backlog of non-injury
crashes. Data for most non-injury crashes is now available in CAS within one
month of the occurrence of a crash.
