Thank you for your email of 11 May 2026 to the Ministry of Education (the Ministry)
requesting the following information:
1. May I ask how you called for public nomination and on what platform you have
call for public nominations e.g. govt.jobs website.
2. A copy of your ad as well and pay rate.
3. Also, how many applications you have received for each of the role from the
public and how many you have received from other nominating agencies such
as TPK or Ministry of Women etc for your role.
4. How many you have shortlisted and how many you have interviewed.
5. Also, can I request to view the appointment letter if there is one sent to the Dr
Dona (Thérèse) Arseneau and Piers Bebbington. I am happy for you to
remove any relevant personal information.
Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act).
With regard to
parts one and two of your request, information pertaining to the cal
for public nominations was provided to your in our decision on your earlier
information request on 9 Feb 2026 [GEMS-46368 refers]. There has been no
additional advertising nor any change in fee information since our earlier response.
Information on the fees to be paid to Piers Bebbington (as a member), and to
Dr Arseneau (as Deputy Chair), is provided in the letters being released in response
to
part five of your request.
Regarding
part three of your request, there were 13 self-nominations and 17 agency
nominations.
With regard to
part four of your request, three candidates were shortlisted. Detailed
discussions were held with two of these candidates

With regard to
part five of your request, please refer to the appointment letters for
Dr Dona (Thérèse) Arseneau and Piers Bebbington, attached as
Appendix A.
Please note, some information has been withheld under section 9(2)(a) of the Act, to
protect the privacy of natural persons.
As required under section 9(1) of the Act, I have considered the public interest in
releasing the information withheld. I do not consider that the public interest
considerations favouring the release of this information are sufficient to outweigh the
need to withhold it at this time.
As per our letter to you on 26 May 2026,
part six of your request has been
transferred to Education New Zealand (ENZ) in accordance with section 14(b)(i) of
the Act, as the information requested is not held by the Ministry but is believed to be
held by ENZ.
