I refer to your request for information dated 17 April 2026 made under the Official Information Act
1982 (the Act).  You have requested the following information:
1.  The minimum, maximum, and median GPAs to receive a non-waitlist first round offer into
MBChB for 2026, via all the graduate sub-categories
2.  The minimum GPA to receive a waitlist offer for the graduate sub-categories
3.  The number of applications, offers given, and the number of offers that got accepted for

these graduate sub-categories
4.  The successful UCAT cut-off scores for the graduate rural, socioeconomic equity, and
refugee sub-categories?
Information is available on the University’s website about admission to the Bachelor of Medicine and
Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB) programme:
•  Medicine: Guidelines for Admission

Anonymised historical summary statistics on admission to the MB ChB programme offered by the
University are now published on our website: https://www.otago.ac.nz/about/quickstats.

The published documents indicate the number of applications, the number of offers, the range of
academic scores of applicants to receive an offer, and the number of admissions to the programme for
each year from 2022 to 2026. The data excludes information we would withhold under section 9(2)(a)
of the Act, to protect the privacy and wellbeing of students.

Accordingly, we decline your request under section 18(d) of the Act, as the information you have
requested is publicly available.

UCAT Thresholds
As specified in the Guidelines for Admission linked above, domestic applicants to the MB ChB
programme via the Graduate category must have a UCAT result obtained in the year of application and
have achieved a score in all four of the UCAT sections at a threshold level determined annually by the
Medical Admissions Committee.
The UCAT thresholds determined by the Medical Admissions Committee in the following two UCAT
domains in 2026 are:
Office of the Registrar and Secretary to the Council | Te Tari o Te Pouroki me te Kaituhi ki te Kaunihera
PO Box 56, Dunedin 9054, New Zealand
[University of Otago request email]
otago.ac.nz

•  Verbal reasoning: 20th percentile or higher
•  Situational judgement: 10th percentile or higher

Thresholds for the other domains may be applied at a later date. Selection for applicants who reach
the UCAT threshold is competitive according to the weighted academic score.
We hope this information will be helpful.

If you have further questions please consider contacting our AskOtago service:
[email address], or to book an appointment with a Student Development adviser see: Request
an appointment.

If you are not satisfied with our response to your information request, section 28(3) of the Act
provides you with the right to ask an Ombudsman to investigate and review this response. However,
we would welcome the opportunity to discuss any concerns with you first.

Ngā mihi
