Official Information Act request: Land Valuation Tribunal members
Thank you for your email of 14 April 2026 to the Ministry of Justice (the Ministry), requesting
under the Of icial Information Act 1982 (the Act), information regarding Land Valuation
Tribunals. Specifically, you requested:
Could you please provide a list of all current members of the Land Valuation Tribunals,
including their names, the start and expiry dates of their terms? Additionally, could you
indicate whether each member is a registered valuer or lawyer/judge or lay member.
Also, Could you also confirm the pay rates for the member role (Chair and Members)?
Further, please provide the total payments received by each member (not included
chairperson) from 1st Jan 2025 to 1st Jan 2026. I understand there may be privacy
considerations, so I’m happy for this information to be presented anonymously (e.g.,
“Member 1 received X amount,” “Member 2 received X amount”).
In response to part 1 of your request, please see
Appendix 1 at ached, which contains a full
list of all current members of the Land Valuation Tribunals, including each member’s name
and the expiry date of their current term of appointment. I can advise that all current Land
Valuation Tribunal members are registered valuers and meet the relevant professional
requirements for appointment.
In response to part 2 of your request, I can confirm that valuer members of the Land
Valuation Tribunals are paid a daily fee of $568 for work carried out in the role.
Between 1 January 2025 and 1 January 2026, the total payments made to members
collectively were $66,376. In terms of pay rates, judges who act as chairpersons of Land
Valuation Tribunals do so in their capacity as Judges and do not receive any remuneration
beyond their judicial salary.
