Tēnā koe Levonne,
Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA)
Ecological Impacts of Aerial Spraying
Thank you for your official information request which was partially transferred to Auckland
Council from Department of Conservation on 1st May 2026. The specific details of the
transfer request and our response are below:
Assessment of Environmental Effects (AEE): Any internal reports, ecological
assessments, or advice held by DOC regarding the potential impact of aerial spraying on
the nesting cycles of the Matuku and the roosting/foraging behavior of the Long-tailed
bat in this specific Significant Ecological Area (SEA). Monitoring Requirements: Details
of any requirements for on-site ecological monitoring during the spray to ensure no
"take" or "disturbance" of protected wildlife occurs.
Our Environmental Monitoring and Resource Consents teams have provided the following:
• Internal email communication between Environmental Monitoring and our specialist
unit Ecological Advice who provided feedback and reviewed the activity.
• Email communication between Ecological Advice (Council) and DoC regarding
nesting and roosting indigenous bird species.
• Documents pertaining to the aircraft
Please note that we do not hold any information on the roosting/foraging behaviour of the
Long-tailed bat related to the spraying activity. There were also no specific monitoring
requirements under the rules and regulations for on-site ecological monitoring during the
spraying.
Please note that some information has been withheld under s7(2)(a) LGOIMA, to ensure the
personal privacy of individuals. Additionally, under s7(2)(f)(i) to maintain “free and frank
expression of opinions by or between or to members or officers or employees of any local
authority in the course of their duty”.
The decision on behalf of Auckland Council to respond to your request as above was made
by Robert Laulala, Manager Environmental Monitoring, Licensing and Compliance and Lee
Ah Ken, Manager Streamline Resource Consents.
