Dear Peter

Request for Information
Thank you for your email dated 8/4/2026 requesting information about forestry owned
or managed by the Canterbury Regional Council (Environment Canterbury) in the
Selwyn, Christchurch, Waimakariri and Hurunui districts.
Your request has been referred to me to reply, and you can find answers to each
question below.
Can you please provide the location of al forestry in this area, ideally by map,
otherwise the park or nearest road name.
Please find attached as map as requested.
Are any of these forests planned for harvest in the 2026 or 2027 year? If so please
give location of forest ideally my map, otherwise by park or nearest road name.
The proposed forests planned for harvest can been found on the map titles provided.
Harvest timing and implementation are not confirmed and wil be reviewed regularly in
response to external factors.
For any forest harvested during 2025, 2026 or 2027 what species to you plan on
replanting with? Please provide species by forest being replanted.
You can find the list of species on the map titles.
Do ECAN require any staff to have firefighting qualifications as part of their
employment? if so how many?
Firefighting qualifications are not required for al roles but are preferred in some.
Environment Canterbury has an 18 person FENZ trained fire team, with each member
holding a minimum Unit Standard 3285 and working towards additional qualifications
(attached).
What purpose built firefighting pumpers/tanker do ECAN own and are there any
plans to purchase any new or replacements fire vehicles at present?
Environment Canterbury operates two 4WD spray trucks used as smoke chasers.
These are dual-purpose assets and are actively used for operational work when not
engaged in fire response. A 4WD fire engine is currently being replaced with a water
tanker due to reaching the end of its service life. A trailer equipped with small
firefighting pumps and associated equipment is also maintained and utilised for fire
response.
