Dear Mr Luke
Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request regarding Board
benefits – OIA 2026-06
We refer to your request to Hon Mark Mitchel on 31 March 2026, which was
transferred to the Ministry of Culture and Heritage on 1 April 2026 and then transferred
(in part) to the Sport Integrity Commission Te Kahu Raunui (the Commission) on 14
April 2026.
The part of your request which was transferred to the Commission was as follows:
Besides meeting fees, do they [the Commission Board members] receive any
other benefits, such as expense reimbursement (If so, may I request to view
your expense reimbursement policy in relation to your board member), a
laptop, ID card, phone, or similar provisions?
Our response
The Commission has considered your request and decided to provide you with the
information.
The Commission does not provide board members with a laptop, ID card, phone or
any similar benefits. In addition to their fees, the Commission’s Board Manual provides
that:
Members are entitled to reimbursement of reasonable and actual expenses
incurred in carrying out their obligations as a member of the Board.
The Commission books flights for board meetings as well as accommodation when
needed, so the expenses most usually reimbursed are:
• Airport car parking
• Uber or taxis between airport and meeting venue
• Meals when required to stay overnight
• Use of their own vehicle (based on the IRD rate per kilometre) to travel
to meetings

Yours sincerely
