Thank you for your request for information made under the Official Information Act 1982 (the
Act) to the Department of Internal Affairs (the Department) received on 31 March 2026. You
requested the fol owing information:
1. Is a registered charity permitted to adopt a partisan political stance?
2. In 2023 the government invited applications for funding contained within the
"Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism Fund". Please provide copies of all
successful grant applications, and all material supplied to the successful applicants
(including but not limited to any conditions around use of the funds).
3. Is it permissible for a charity to pursue a stated purpose of "promoting other
[unspecified] charitable purposes as decided upon by the Trustees"?
4. What checks and balances are in place to ensure that a registered charity meets,
or continues to meet, its stated charitable purpose?
5. If any, please provide all concerns/complaints received regarding
charities/projects which were funded by the Preventing and Countering Violent
Extremism Fund.
On 8 April 2026, we contacted you to refine parts 2 and 5 of your request as there is a
significant volume of information in scope of your request. Without refinement, meeting your
request would require substantial collation.
On 14 April 2026, the Department responded to parts 1, 3 and 4 of your request via email.

As at 20 April 2026, we have not received a response from you regarding possible refinement.
Due to the substantial amount of work that would be required to research and col ate the
information you have requested, we are refusing parts 2 and 5 of your request under section
18(f) of the Act.
