Re Official Information Act Request Operation Chartreuse
I refer to your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request sent to NZ Police dated 27 March 2026 and
the acknowledgement on 30 March 2026 that part 4 and 5 of the request has been transferred to the
Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
Part 4 and 5 of the request are as fol ows:
4. A breakdown of vehicles, property, cash, jewellery/gold and any other assets seized & restrained
under the Criminal Proceeds (Recovery) Act 2009
5. A breakdown of what was successful y forfeited under the Criminal Proceeds (Recovery) Act 2009,
the dollar amount realised, and what items (if any) were returned to the offenders to date.
The Official Assignee is appointed under the Public Service Act to administer parts of the Criminal
Proceeds (Recovery) Act 2009. Their work is managed by the New Zealand Insolvency and Trustee
Service a unit within the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.
When the Court orders assets to be restrained or forfeited, the Official Assignee secures, maintains,
and sel s them as per the Court orders. These assets can include houses, vehicles, and other assets
linked to proceeds of crime.
Attached is a list of assets relating to Operation Chartreuse, their status and the net proceeds
received where the Court has ordered their forfeiture.
The proceedings relating to this request are ongoing before the Courts as civil proceedings between
New Zealand Police and the respondents.
The specific details of assets that are currently restrained, as well as assets that have been returned,
have been withheld pursuant to section 9(2)(a) of the Official Information Act 1982, as the information
relates to the property of private individuals and is necessary to protect the privacy of natural persons.
These assets continue to be owned by the respondent unless and until a Court makes an order to the
contrary. The public interest in the release of this information has been considered and is not
considered to outweigh the need to protect individual privacy in this case.
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
Information about how to make a complaint to the Ombudsman is available at

Yours faithfully
