Response to your request
Please find attached a copy of the public ad (item 2) which called for applications for
potential roles on these boards. A total of 96 applications were received from the
public, which also included a public application that was also nominated by Hon James
Meager. The number of potential vacancies on each board are as follows (the
incumbents whose terms are expiring on 30 June 2026 may be reappointed):
Transpower: two potential vacancies
Quotable Value: one potential vacancy
Kordia: two potential vacancies.
Public nominations were invited through Treasury’s board appointments website,
letters were sent to Caucus and coalition party colleagues, and the opportunities
circulated to other government nominating agencies, Treasury’s candidate database,
LinkedIn, the Super Diversity Institute, and Community Governance NZ.
As the appointments processes are stil underway for these boards, we cannot advise
how many have been shortlisted and wil proceed to interview – this information does
not exist yet.
Please find attached a copy of an appointment letter to Bruce Parkes for his
appointment to the Transpower Board as an example of a typical SOE Board
appointment letter. Anyone appointed to the SOE Boards wil receive a similar letter.
In making my decision, I have considered the public interest considerations in section
9(1) of the OIA.
Please note that this letter (with your personal details removed) and enclosed
documents may be published on the Treasury website.
This reply addresses the information you requested. You have the right to ask the
Ombudsman to investigate and review my decision.
Yours sincerely
