Dear M. Herle,
Thank you for your email of 17 March 2026 requesting information relating to the Tiakina
Kauri Programme and funding provided to BioSense. Your request has been considered
under the Of icial Information Act 1982 (OIA).
You requested the following:
I am seeking information from Biosecurity New Zealand, specifically the Tiakina
Kauri Programme. I would like to know how much funding was both allocated and
given to BioSense Limited to date (one of the contractors responsible for delivering
the programme).

Additionally, please supply as much detailed information on the outcomes of the
work completed by BioSense Limited to date as well as ones that are intended to
occur at the end of any remaining contracts or agreements between MPI,
Biosecurity New Zealand and BioSense Limited.
BioSense have provided services around the following activities:
• Supporting Tiakina Kauri to implement the Kauri surveil ance programme, working
across Kaurilands in Northland, Auckland, Coromandel, and Waikato
• Collection & testing of soil samples & providing test results and survey form data
to LINZ for storing on Kete Aronui
• Delivering surveil ance training
• Tree health assessments of pre-selected trees for surveying
• Providing support to plan field operations

• Mapping traplines and tracks
• Providing and maintaining surveil ance kits and replacing consumable items
