[FYI request #34108 email]
Dear Bresson
I refer to your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request to the NZ Transport Agency
Waka Kotahi, which was in part transferred to Police on 18 March 2026. The part
transferred to Police was:
1. For the period 1 January 2025 to 15 May 2025 please provide the number of
infringement notices issued and the total value of those infringements for the
speed camera located at Mystery Creek Road, Ohaupo, Waikato
Please note that as of 1 July 2025, Police are no longer responsible for the operation of
traffic safety cameras, including mobile speed cameras. This responsibility transferred to
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA), and its deployment practices and policies
may differ from those previously used by Police. Police are therefore able to provide
information for speed camera infringements only for the period prior to 1 July 2025. The
remaining period wil be answered by NZTA accordingly.
However, I can confirm that no mobile or static speed cameras were deployed on Mystery
Creek Road, Ohaupo during the specified period of 1 January 2025 to 1 July 2025.
As such, this part of your request has been refused pursuant to section 18(g)(i) of the OIA
in that the information requested is not held by Police and I have no grounds for believing
that the information is held by any other agency subject to the OIA.
I trust this information is satisfactory in answering your request. If you are not satisfied
with the way I have responded to your request, you have the right under section 28(3) of
the OIA to ask the Ombudsman to review my decisions. Information on how to do this is
available online at
www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.
Yours sincerely
