[FYI request #34040 email]
Dear Brandon
OFFICIAL INFORMATION ACT REQUEST
I am writing in response to your Official Information Act request dated 11 March 2026.
Your request was as follows:
I am enquiring about the instore games "Millionaire Riches" game number "779" and "Mega Million" game
number "830" which are a$15 tickets. My enquiry is how many games have been sold to date (11.03.26) and also
how many games have been sold once you reply to this request. Also is there an alternative way to see this
information besides making a request here?

Please find our response to your request below:
Lotto NZ already publishes information on the top prizes for each game that have been won and those that
remain unclaimed, as well as aggregated annual sales figures for all of our Instant Kiwi games. This information
will continue to be made publicly available.
However, after considering the public interest in providing Instant Kiwi ticket sales information, and in particular,
Lotto NZ’s statutory obligation to minimise harm, Lotto NZ has decided to withhold the information you have
requested under the following sections of the Official Information Act 1982:
As per Section 9(2)(c) we are withholding this information to “avoid prejudice to measures protecting the health
or safety of members of the public,” as we believe that in some cases, providing this information could directly
encourage significant targeted spending by a small number of players on a specific product, which could put
those individuals at heightened risk of gambling harm.
We are also withholding under Section 9(2)(k) to “prevent the disclosure or use of official information for
improper gain or improper advantage,” as releasing this information could provide a particular group of
customers with an advantage over and above others, by enabling targeted purchasing strategies.
It is our view that the withholding grounds above are not outweighed by the public interest in release of this
information.
We trust this answers your request. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind regards,
Leah Sutton
