Thank you for your original request of 29 April 2026 to Fire and Emergency New Zealand 
requesting the following information under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA): 
 
•  “Please provide all the FENZ board minutes from the current and previous FY.” 
 
We note you amended the timeframe for the board minutes on the same day to be “from 19 May 
2025 to date (with a link to a previously published OIA related to Fire and Emergency’s Board 
meeting minutes and attachments).” On 30 April 2026, we invited you to clarify your request as 
being for the Fire and Emergency Board meeting minutes only from 19 May 2025 to date. As we 
did not receive a response, we have progressed with our interpretation as being for the Board 
meeting minutes only.  
 
Please find attached, as the Appendix to this response, a copy of Fire and Emergency’s Board 
meeting minutes between June 2025 to April 2026. Some information has been withheld under 
the following sections of the OIA: 
 
•  9(2)(a), to protect the privacy of natural persons. 
 
•  9(2)(ba)(i) of the OIA, to protect information which is subject to an obligation of 
confidence or which any person has been or could be compelled to provide under the 
authority of any enactment, where the making available of the information would be likely 
to prejudice the supply of similar information, or information from the same source, and it 
is in the public interest that such information should continue to be supplied. 
 
•  9(2)(b)(ii), to protect information where the making available of the information would be 
likely unreasonably to prejudice the commercial position of the person who supplied or 
who is the subject of the information.

•  9(2)(j), to enable a Minister of the Crown or any public service agency or organisation 
holding the information to carry on, without prejudice or disadvantage, negotiations 
(including commercial and industrial negotiations). 
 
In making this decision, we have considered the public interest considerations in section 9(1) of 
the OIA. 
 
Please note, the Board met on 9 May 2025; however, the meeting minutes produced were prior to 
the amended timeframe of your request, therefore are out of scope of your request. Further, the 
April 2026 Board meeting minutes are soon to be finalised. You may wish to submit a separate 
request for these minutes should you require them. 
 
You have the right to seek an investigation and review by the Ombudsman of this decision.
