Dear Simon
Request for information
Thank you for your Official Information Act 1982 (OIA) request received on 6 March 2026,
in which you requested:
Please provide me, for financial year 2024/25, the total number of traffic
infringements for the fol owing offences (note I may not have the right
terminology)
1. Stopping on yel ow hashed lines
2. Blocking an intersection
3. Running a red light
These are for the fol owing Tauranga intersections: 1. Fifteenth Avenue and
Cameron Road, including the stretch of Cameron Road 200m north of the
intersection 2. Fraser St and Fifteenth Avenue, including the stretch of Fraser St
200m north of the intersection
I refer you to Appendix 1 below, which shows a breakdown of the number of
infringements issued for “failed to comply with red traffic signal (vehicles)” and “failed to
comply with red arrow traffic signal” for the 2024/2025 financial year. The data has been
confined to scene station Tauranga for the specified corner streets, noting that
infringements recorded on the streets themselves are included where they are not
reported as corners.
Police does not hold information relating to “stopping on yellow hashed lines” or
“blocking an intersection”. Police systems also do not capture location information to the
level of detail required to distinguish infringement activity within specific distances (such
as a set number of metres) from an intersection.
As such, this part of your request has been refused pursuant to section 18(g)(i) of the OIA
in that the information requested is not held by Police and I have no grounds for believing
that the information is held by any other agency subject to the OIA.
Please also note that this information has been drawn from a dynamic operational
database and is subject to change as new information is recorded. Cancel ation notices
have been excluded.

If you are not satisfied with the way I have responded to your request, you have the right
under section 28(3) of the OIA to ask the Ombudsman to review my decisions.

www.ombudsman.parliament.nz.
Yours sincerely
