Your request for information under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings
Act 1987 (LGOIMA)
– CAS-1300015-M4P8X4
Kia ora Geoffrey,
I refer to your request for information dated 3 March 2026 regarding the Devonport Ferry Service.
Please find our response below.
1. Any briefings, documents or proposals for improvements to the Devonport ferry service that
have been in the last 12 months.
Future service changes to ferries are guided by the Regional Public Transport Plan (RPTP), which
is refreshed every 3 years.
Adjustments to the Devonport timetable have been discussed within the last 12 months as per the
attached document.
The enclosed table has been submitted by Fuller’s Group Ltd for consideration and discussion.
For context, please be aware the table provides a base structure of maximum service delivery and
is unlikely to be implemented in totality. There is currently no approved budget for implementing
any change to the existing timetable.
AT always considers the opportunity and need to implement parts of this structure based on the
patronage demand at dif erent times of the day and week in order to best meet that demand.
Please note some information from the timetable has been withheld under section 7(2)(b)(i ) to
protect information that would be likely unreasonably to prejudice the commercial position of the
person who supplied or who is the subject of the information.
2. Whether any consideration has been given to returning double-ended vessels to this service
In the near term, AT is introducing two new electric hybrid ferries to the Devonport - city centre
route. These include improved cabin layout, indoor bike racks, and wide boarding doors (similar in
style to the Kea which used to operate the route).

In the medium term, the Auckland Rapid Transit Pathway - which describes how Auckland's rapid
transit network can be developed over the next 30+ years - identifies the need to investigate
Devonport route for potential rapid transit status in the future. This investigation, which is yet to be
commenced, wil consider the merits of double-ended style ferries alongside other options and any
associated infrastructure improvements required.

Should you believe that we have not dealt with your request appropriately, you are able to make a
complaint to the Office of the Ombudsman in accordance with section 27(3) of the LGOIMA Act
and seek an investigation and review regarding this matter.
