Thank you for your email of 3 March 2026 to the Department of Corrections – Ara Poutama
Aotearoa, requesting information about the number of public relations or communication
roles at Corrections. Your request has been considered under the Official Information Act
1982 (OIA).
You requested:
1. I would like to request the number of staff in public relations or communications roles
at the Department of Corrections for 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, and 2021.
2. I would also like to request the number of contractors in public relations or
communications roles at the Department of Corrections for 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023,
2022, and 2021.
Corrections reports annual y on the number of staff or contractors who work in a public
relations or communications role to Parliament’s Justice Committee. These reports are
publicly available and you can find the various links on the Corrections website here.
For example, please see page 59 of the 2025/26 Estimates Examination, which has the
number of communications staff and their salaries in ten thousand increments.
As the requested information is publicly available, your request is refused in accordance
with section 18(d) of the OIA. Please note that information on 2026 wil be published once
the select committee hearing has taken place this year.
