Thank you for your email on 2 March 2026, asking Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora for the
following under the Of icial Information Act 1982 (the OIA):
1. Median and 90th percentile waiting times (in days) for First Specialist Assessment (FSA)
and Treatment, broken down by District and Specialty, for each month from January 2019
to present.
2. Number of patients on the waiting list at the end of each month, broken down by waiting
time bands (0-4 months, 4-8 months, 8-12 months, 12+ months), by District and Specialty,
from January 2019 to present.
Response
At Health NZ we are commit ed to delivering timely, quality healthcare to all New Zealanders. In
line with the health targets set by the Government we are determined to deliver faster cancer
treatment, improved immunisation rates, shorter stays in ED, shorter wait times for First Specialist
Assessments (FSAs), and shorter wait times for elective treatment. More information is available

Your request to for the median and 90th percentiles for wait times is refused under section 18(g) as
the OIA does not require our agency to create new information to respond to a request.

underscoring that the data is provisional, not validated through a formal validation process, and
could be subject to change.

Where we have withheld information under section 9 of the OIA, we have also considered any
countervailing public interests in the release of this information. We do not believe that the public
interests outweigh the need to withhold it in this instance.
